Basentello Archaeological Research Project (San Felice Excavation)
http://bvarp.com/new/
Charcoal specialist 2009-12. The San Felice site is a Imperial/late Roman rural villa, part of larger activities of the Basentello Archaeological Research Project. Charcoal results surprisingly revealed fuel types used were of an inferior nature, suggesting that despite the size of the villa, in the latter part of its use (1st c. AD), inhabitance by non elites was probable. This was subsequently borne out when further excavation identified presence of cottage industries including lime making. A preliminary report on the first two seasons of data has been completed, and published. The new phase of research expanded in 2012 to a wider area in the Valley, where extensive field survey was undertaken as a preliminary step.

Industries in Angkor Project (2009-2011) (Director, Dr Mitch Hendricksen, U Chicago)
http://sydney.edu.au/angkor/structure/past-projects.shtml
Charcoal specialist. This Australian Research Council funded project examined the industrial powerhouse of Preah Khan, part of the mediaeval Angkorian society located in present day Cambodia. Excavations of iron smelting kilns have been the focus of research, and analysis of the charcoal fuel remains is currently being used to estimate kiln burn temperatures through the use of reflectance measurement of the charcoal. To be published 2016.
